Cuyabeno, Ecuador

DAY 1Transfer from your hotel in Quito to the airport, flight to Coca: leave the Andes for the Amazon, where a private transfer takes you to the Cuyabeno Bridge. From there, a two-hour motorized canoe ride on the Cuyabeno River brings you deep into the rainforest. The journey itself is a wildlife safari, with frequent sightings of monkeys, toucans, macaws, and more. Once at the lodge, you'll explore the beautiful Laguna Grande, home to pink dolphins, and swim at sunset before an evening of rainforest sounds.Meals day 1: - / L / D

DAY 2Monkeys and birds will be your morning alarm. After a short canoe ride, you'll hike through the "terra firma forest" with your guide, who will explain the ecosystem and point out details like poisonous frogs and giant insects. After a midday siesta, you'll explore flooded parts of the forest by canoe, looking for monkeys, birds, and even dolphins. After dinner, a night walk reveals fascinating nocturnal insects and animals, like giant grasshoppers, stick insects, and night monkeys.Meals day 2: B / L / D

DAY 3After an early breakfast, you'll visit a local Siona indigenous village. After a 1.5-hour canoe ride, a Siona woman will teach you how to prepare traditional casabe, a tortilla made from freshly harvested manioc. After returning to the lodge for lunch and a siesta, you'll take another refreshing swim and enjoy the sunset. A special nocturnal canoe excursion awaits after dinner, where you'll use flashlights to search for caimans, snakes, and other nocturnal animals.Meals day 3: B / L / D

DAY 3 &nbsp;Start after breakfast, we drive to the parking area at the Mojanda Lagoon. Then we hike up the slopes of the extinct volcanco through typical vegetation, with great views of the avenue of the volcanos, up to the summits of FUYA FUYA (4.263 m / 13,986 ft) - time to the main summit about 2 - 3 hours. Fuya Fuya Summit

DAY 4Start after an early breakfast, we drive to the parking area and hike throught the beautiful andean grassland to the summit of IMBABURA (4.609 m / 15,121 ft) - time to the summit depending on route about 4 - 5 hours. If your are in great shape we go for the 2 summits of Imbabura. DAY 5Today we take it easy. We have time to visit Peguche and there a typical textile production as well as the famous waterfall. We have a nice lunch and time for a bit of rest in the afternoon. meals: B / L / - accommodation in Hotel Indio Inn (single / double / triple rooms) with breakfast.

DAY 6 + 7 We start after breakfast, preparing our equipment for the climb. Then we drive to Cayambe city where we have lunch and then continue driving up to the Refugio Ruales Oleas Berge (4640 m / 15230 ft). In the afternoon we have a small glacier school / practice if required or discover the surroundings. After an early dinner we try to rest. DAY 8Today we spend a relaxing day in Papallacta Hot Springs for recovering energies for our main target, Chimborazo. With a bit of luck we enjoy great weather and awesome views of Antisana from the hot springs. No guide included. DAY 9 + 10Pick up at approx. 10.00 am, drive towards Pintag and Antisana National Park. We stop for lunch on the way or have a picknick and continue then to the check in of Antisana National Park. Afterwards (if conditions are favorable) we drive up to the parking lot, where we camp as well. In case the access is tricky, we'll have to hike up and set our camp up at the sector "La Virgen" at approx. 4500 m / 14760 ft. We have an early dinner and rest at our remote camp site and ideally admire the sun set over Cotopaxi, just opposite of us. Wake up around midnight, small snack and start of the hike to the summit of ANTISANA (5.758 m / 18,891 ft), which takes approximately 6 - 8 h. DAY 11 After a good rest we head South. On our way we visit Cotopaxi National Park, to get at least a view of this andean beauty. Afterwards we continue and pass the city of Riobamba (oldest planned city of Ecuador). Depending on our schedule we stroll through the streets of the typical Andean town, see its markets and other interesting sites or continue directly up to Chakana Mountain Lodge. meals: B / L / D accommodation in dorm rooms in Chakana Mountain Lodge, including dinner &amp; breakfast (4000 m / 13100 ft)&nbsp;

DAY 12 + 13 We head towards Chimborazo National Park, have lunch on the way. After check in at the gate we drive up to the parking lot at 4800 m / 15750 ft, and hike then up to the high camp at 5300 m / 17400 ft, where we spend the night in tents or domes. After an early dinner we try to rest, have breakfast around midnight and get prepared for a 6 - 8 hours ascent to CHIMBORAZO SUMMIT (6263 m / 20548 ft). Ideally after admiring a wonderful sunrise from the summit of Chimborazo we descend to high camp where we pick up our stuff, have a small snack and then continue downwards to our vehicles. Included in the itinerary, the iconic Cotopaxi Volcano (5897 m / 19347 ft), which is another epic target for many mountaineers coming to Ecuador. This beauty is said to be the world's highest active volcano. The view into its huge crater is simply breathtaking. Definitely a trip of a lifetime - join us!
Technically the climbs are not very difficult, nevertheless good fitness is required and some previous glacier travel experience highly recommended.
Another very important point is proper acclimatization. To really enjoy the climbs we recommend at least 4 days of preparation, including hikes in altitude and steadily increasing your sleeping altitude if possible.&nbsp;

After breakfast we drive to the South, have lunch on the way and enter Cotopaxi National Park, then we drive up to the parking lot and hike up to Cotopaxi refuge at 4.865 m / 15,960 ft (45 min). If required there will be a small glacier training in the afternoon (walking techniques), early dinner and rest at the refuge (dorm). Wake up around midnight, small snack and start of the hike to the summit of COTOPAXI (5.897 m / 19,347 ft), which takes approximately 6 - 8 h. After ideally enjoying a breathtaking sunrise at the summit we descend (approx. 3 hours to the refuge, 30 mins to the parking lot) and return to your accommodation.&nbsp;
