Climbing Chimborazo Volcano (6263 m / 20548 ft) - the world's highest mountain measured from the center of the earth - is a challenging plan, therefore we take it up with a good acclimatization schedule. Included in the itinerary are Cayambe and Antisana Volcanos, Ecuador's 3rd and 4th highest mountains and the only snow-covered spot on the equatorial line. Definitely a trip of a lifetime - join us!

Technically the climbs are not very difficult, nevertheless good fitness is required and some previous glacier travel experience highly recommended.

In this 14 day-package an extended acclimatization process is included, further you'll get to know some of the highlights of the Ecuadorian Andean region, among them the city of Quito, Imbabura, Papallacta Hot Springs, and the city of Riobamba or Cotopaxi National Park.

Cancellation Conditions:

- 60 or more days prior to departure: the total amount paid will be refunded, less an administrative fee equal to 10% of the total price.

- 59 - 30 days prior to departure: a cancellation fee equivalent to 50% of the total price shall be retained.

- 29 and less days prior to departure: the entire total price shall be forfeited.

Change Conditions:

Any change of the purchased itinerary or services asked by the client before and during the trip will depend on availability, requires mutual agreement and will be subject to cancellation penalties of existing services.

DAY 1
arrival at Quito airport, transfer to your hotel (Casa Ilayaku or Vieja Cúba)

DAY 2
we explore Quito's old town: beautiful churches, squares and amazing views to get a feeling of what Ecuador is like. In the afternoon we continue to Otavalo.

DAY 3
 

Start after breakfast, we drive to the parking area at the Mojanda Lagoon. Then we hike up the slopes of the extinct volcanco through typical vegetation, with great views of the avenue of the volcanos, up to the summits of FUYA FUYA (4.263 m / 13,986 ft) - time to the main summit about 2 - 3 hours. After a small rest on the summit we descend to our vehicle and continue to our accommodation.

DAY 4

Start after an early breakfast, we drive to the parking area and hike throught the beautiful andean grassland to the summit of IMBABURA (4.609 m / 15,121 ft) - time to the summit depending on route about 4 - 5 hours. If your are in great shape we go for the 2 summits of Imbabura. After a small rest on the summit we descend to our vehicle and continue to our accommodation.

DAY 5

Today we take it easy. We have time to visit Peguche and there a typical textile production as well as the famous waterfall. We have a nice lunch and time for a bit of rest in the afternoon.

DAY 6 + 7

We start after breakfast, preparing our equipment for the climb. Then we drive to Cayambe city where we have lunch and then continue driving up to the Refugio Ruales Oleas Berge (4640 m / 15230 ft). In the afternoon we have a small glacier school / practice if required or discover the surroundings. After an early dinner we try to rest. Around midnight we wake up and have breakfast, then we start our ascent to CAYAMBE (5.790 m / 18,996 ft), time to summit approx. 6 to 7 hours, we admire crevasses and beautiful views, then we descend to the refuge and drive to our accommodation.

DAY 8

Today we spend a relaxing day in Papallacta Hot Springs for recovering energies for our main target, Chimborazo. With a bit of luck we enjoy great weather and awesome views of Antisana from the hot springs. No guide included. Stay on your own.

DAY 9 + 10

Pick up at approx. 10.00 am, drive towards Pintag and Antisana National Park. We stop for lunch on the way or have a picknick and continue then to the check in of Antisana National Park. Afterwards (if conditions are favorable) we drive up to the parking lot, where we camp as well. In case the access is tricky, we'll have to hike up and set our camp up at the sector "La Virgen" at approx. 4500 m / 14760 ft. We have an early dinner and rest at our remote camp site and ideally admire the sun set over Cotopaxi, just opposite of us. Wake up around midnight, small snack and start of the hike to the summit of ANTISANA (5.758 m / 18,891 ft), which takes approximately 6 - 8 h. After enjoying hopefully wonderful views at the summit we descend (approx. 3 - 4 hours to the camp), pack our camp and return to Quito.

DAY 11
After a good rest we head South. On our way we visit Cotopaxi National Park, to get at least a view of this andean beauty. Afterwards we continue and pass the city of Riobamba (oldest planned city of Ecuador). Depending on our schedule we stroll through the streets of the typical Andean town, see its markets and other interesting sites or continue directly up to Chakana Mountain Lodge.

DAY 12 + 13
We head towards Chimborazo National Park, have lunch on the way. After check in at the gate we drive up to the parking lot at 4800 m / 15750 ft, and hike then up to the high camp at 5300 m / 17400 ft, where we spend the night in tents or domes. After an early dinner we try to rest, have breakfast around midnight and get prepared for a 6 - 8 hours ascent to CHIMBORAZO SUMMIT (6263 m / 20548 ft). Ideally after admiring a wonderful sunrise from the summit of Chimborazo we descend to high camp where we pick up our stuff, have a small snack and then continue downwards to our vehicles. Transportation back to our accommodation.
